ARIZONA ANTE
56 PLAYING CARDS CELEBRATING THE WONDERS AND BEAUTY OF ARIZONA
ARTIST RECEPTION FEBRUARY 3, 2024

JANUARY 6, 2024…TUCSON, AZ…For Immediate Release
What do you do when you have a huge idea to playfully share the wonders of Arizona in which we bask year-round? Tucson artist Suzanne Villella has the whimsical, artful answer. Starting in 2020, Suzanne began creating a deck of 56 mixed media playing cards celebrating the beauty of Arizona, from reptiles to mariachis and beyond.

The Arizona Ante, Suzanne’s collection of original art, is opening February 3, 2024. The event adds to the growth of arts downtown and an uplifting appreciation of the State of Arizona cultures, landscapes, activities, history, wildlife, and beauty that should be investigated and celebrated. Visitors will explore the playing cards, enjoy clever discoveries in each card, in addition to hands on exploring. Suzanne’s techniques and process can be noted through her sketchbooks and works in progress.

“Arizona is full of diversity on many levels. We have deserts and snow skiing, boating and rodeos, racing and hiking. It is home to intriguing collections of birds and cacti. The people of Arizona bring us celebrations and history. All of this should be recognized and celebrated,” says Suzanne Villella. “We should be so thankful for such rich surroundings.” This series is just the beginning of what Arizona truly has to offer. Seeing this series will bring joy to the people of Arizona. Arizona Ante is curated by the talented Madeleine Wick, Visual Merchandising Manager for the not-for-profit Southern Arizona Arts Guild Gallery. This show is graciously supported by an Artist Opportunity Grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

February 3, 2024, 4PM to 9PM. Arizona Ante is a family-friendly art exhibition, including a scavenger hunt and free drawing with artist Suzanne Villella. Meet the Artist on Saturdays, February 10, 17, and 24, from 12-5 pm or by appointment (702) 376-7499 at the Steinfeld Gallery.
