Details

Mothers are celebrated on the second Sunday in May (USA) and May 10 (in most Latin American countries). This event applies the same notion of gratitude to, love for, and honor of a fundamental, lifelong relationship to our Madre Tierra with a particular focus on trees. Trees have a profoundly symbiotic and nurturing relationship with Mother Earth/Madre Tierra. They help make life possible for all breathing beings and provide a home, food, and other resources for countless species. What’s more, human beings are only recently, in the last 20-40 years, learning almost mystical aspects of trees that are even more amazing than the technical knowledge built up over millennia from indigenous wisdom to biology, phenology, ecology, and the science of tree rings. We will share and celebrate a little about all these aspects of trees and why and how we need many more of them in our city’s public and private spaces, from streets to schools, workplaces, apartment homes, and the yards of individual houses.

The event will feature:

  1. Exhibits and activities provided by Corazón Latino and event partners, including interactive, hands-on, citizen science activities using MyTree and iNaturalist
  2. A musical performance to bring joy
  3. Physical movement to release and lift energy (Zumba dance)

Corazón Latino is proud to partner with the US Forest Service, Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, Downtown Tucson Partnership, HSL Properties, and Mamás Con Poder on this event.

Location: Armory Park in downtown Tucson, Arizona.

The official street address is 222 S. 5th Avenue, but we will be on the west side of the park facing S. 6th Avenue
