The Coolers
The Coolers were conceived by Rex Caughron and Gary Love who began assembling the members at the end of 2006. The original nine member line-up was firmed up in spring of 2009 and the band debuted in late April of that year. Driven by a five piece horn section, the band’s sound moves seamlessly from old school blues & swing ala T-Bone Walker, to the Texas blues/R&B of Delbert McClinton, to thumping soul (Etta James, Aretha), and finally to the early funk of James Brown and Sly Stone. Add to that a touch of soul-jazz and interestingly re-worked arrangements and you begin to get a feel for what the band is all about. Since their debut, the Coolers have been firing up dance floors around southern Arizona and were featured in the 2010 SABHF Blues Festival and the 2011 Silver City Blues Festival kick-off.
