On the first Thursday of the month the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block offers extended hours and pay-what-you-wish admission from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On December’s First Thursday explore work from CUMBI: Textiles, Society and Memory in Andean South America and investigate what textiles say about how societies are shaped and how histories are made.
The evening will feature art and gallery activities, led by Ami and Laila that explore weaving and pattern as well as a pop up by Hands of the People where you can purchase handmade crafts from Indigenous artisans. At 5:30 pm join us for a panel on Weaving and Memory, featuring CUMBI artist Perla Segovia, in the Stonewall Community Room located in the Alice Chaiten Baker Center for Art Education (registration coming soon).
During First Thursdays TMA provides space for emerging and established food vendors throughout Arizona to offer pop-ups and encourage guests to support local businesses and foodie creatives. This month purchase food from Ricuras de Venezuela, enjoy live music from Tradiciones, and a cash bar serving beer and wine.
First Thursday is presented by an anonymous donor.
