Details
Explore free motion embroidery, a technique where one uses the sewing needle to draw, with CUMBI: Textiles, Society, and Memory in Andean South America artist Perla Segovia. Learn how to embroider a photograph using the same technique as Perla employed in the exhibition. You will need to bring a favorite picture representing home for this workshop and will work collaboratively with another person in the class to build community/friendships through the arts. Each person will embroider their new friend’s photo onto canvas and will get to keep this work and take it home as a memory keepsake of this new relationship. The needle serves as a pinpoint in time that records memories with thread.
