Details
On Sept. 16, 1810, Padre Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla delivered El Grito de Dolores (the cry for freedom) that triggered Mexico's war for independence from Spain. The fight took 11 years, but on Sept. 27, 1821, Mexico won its independence.
Celebrate Tucson’s Mexican history and heritage with Ballet Folklorico and mariachi performances, along with a representative from the Mexican Consulate delivering the traditional cry for independence, El Grito! Finish the evening with a lecture on the history of El Grito by Dr. Luis Coronado Guel, Director, SBS Mexico Initiatives.
Parking Information: Paid street metered parking is available on all surrounding streets. There is a paid parking lot at 100 W. Franklin (across from El Charro). The SunLink Streetcar (free rides) stops at Church and Broadway and at Church and Congress. Click for schedule and map
