About the Film
Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of Balance (1982) is a non-narrative film directed by Godfrey Reggio with music by Philip Glass which explores the relationship between nature, humanity, and technology.

On view in Divergence of Legacy: Art of the American West in the 21st Century is a large-scale pastel by artist Ellen Wagener entitled Koyaanisqasti, which speaks to humankind’s effect on nature. Be sure to check out this work in the museum’s galleries before watching the film!
