A Message to Our Downtown Tucson Community

To our downtown businesses, property owners, residents, partners, and visitors,

Our hearts remain with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by Sunday's tragic shooting in downtown Tucson. We continue to hold them in our thoughts as they recover, and we are grateful to the responding TPD officers, first responders, medical personnel, law enforcement officers, and community organizations who responded with professionalism, urgency, and compassion.

Events like this impact more than those directly involved. They affect our merchants, employees, residents, visitors, and everyone who loves downtown. We recognize the fear, frustration, and uncertainty many are feeling, and we want our community to know that these concerns are being heard.

The Downtown Tucson Partnership exists to help create a downtown that is welcoming, vibrant, and safe. While no single organization can prevent every act of violence, we can strengthen the systems, partnerships, and environment that support public safety every day.

Since the incident, we have been working closely with the Tucson Police Department, the City of Tucson, elected officials, downtown businesses, and our community partners to identify immediate actions and long-term strategies that will further enhance safety throughout downtown.

Our continued work:

• Expanding collaboration with our nightlife and merchant community through the Together Tucson initiative.
• Continuing deployment of advanced identification technology and information sharing among participating venues.
• Evaluating opportunities to improve lighting, visibility, and activity in areas that feel isolated or underutilized.
• Exploring additional public safety technologies, including expanded camera infrastructure where appropriate.
• Increasing coordination between DTP Ambassadors, Tucson Police, business owners, and social service providers.
• Engaging downtown stakeholders in conversations about environmental design and operational improvements that enhance both safety and the perception of safety.

Downtown has always been defined by its people. Every day, hundreds of business owners, employees, artists, residents, nonprofit organizations, hospitality professionals, and volunteers choose to invest their time and energy into building a stronger downtown. Their commitment has not changed.

We also want our downtown businesses to know that you are not facing this alone. The Downtown Tucson Partnership remains committed to supporting our merchants, advocating for resources, and working alongside our public safety partners to ensure downtown continues to be a place where people can gather, celebrate, and build community.

Recovery is not accomplished singlehandedly, it happens through partnership. That partnership is one of downtown Tucson's greatest strengths, and it will continue to guide our work in the days and months ahead.
