Downtown Tucson Celebrates the Return of the Wildcats and Aztecs

DOWNTOWN TUCSON, AZ, August 26, 2024 – Today marks the first day of classes for University of Arizona students, and as both Wildcats and Pima Community College students return to Tucson, Pima County, the City of Tucson, Mayor Regina Romero and Chair Adelita Grijalva are pleased to welcome you to Tucson and to our vibrant downtown. Downtown Tucson is a downtown for everyone – the region’s eclectic urban hub, where people come to connect, be authentically inspired, prosper, and celebrate diversity.

“Students bring a tremendous boost to our local businesses, and Downtown Tucson has so much to offer. DTP's dedicated team of Clean & Safe Ambassadors ensure a beautiful, clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone,” said Kathleen Eriksen, President & CEO of the Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP).

Whether you’re looking for a quick bite between classes, a spot to hang out with friends, or a new place to explore on the weekends, downtown has everything you need to make the most of your college experience.

Looking for the perfect study spot? Downtown’s got you covered with plenty of local coffee shops where you can sip, study, and chill. With 73 food and drink establishments, 82 shops, services, and entertainment spots, and 8 theatre and performance venues, downtown is the place to be.

Mayor Romero recently commemorated Sun Link Streetcar's 10th Anniversary, which offers rides connecting you to all the downtown action. The streetcar is your easy ride to everything—whether it’s grabbing a bite, catching a show, or hanging out with friends.

“We’re thrilled to welcome University of Arizona and Pima Community College students back downtown, where they can explore our local shops, restaurants, and coffee spots—all accessible with fare-free, safe, and fun streetcar rides,” said Mayor Regina Romero.

Students can stay up-to-date with downtown by signing up for DTP's free email updates, where they’ll discover the latest events, new business openings, and exciting festivals like the DUSK Music Festival.
