Haiku Hike Now on Display

DOWNTOWN TUCSON, AZ, March 21, 2025 – Spring in Downtown Tucson brings poetry to unexpected places. The Haiku Hike, a literary competition and self-guided poetry trail, returns for its sixth year, inviting visitors and locals to discover poetry woven into the urban landscape. This year’s theme is Belonging.

Presented by The Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) and the University of Arizona Poetry Center, the 6th annual Haiku Hike literary competition showcases 20 winning haiku poems printed on acrylic signage in planters located on Congress Street and Stone Avenue. Tucson's poet Laureate, TC Tolbert, selected this year's winning haiku. These signs will provide visual and cultural interest during the spring season, through June 1.

“We invite the community to come out to the Haiku Hike this spring—it’s a wonderful opportunity to engage with poetry, experience the vibrancy of downtown, enjoy the charm of our city, and maybe even discover a new local business along the way,” said Crystal Moore, President & CEO of the DTP.

The competition drew 1,954 entries from 31 countries, 34 states, and 1,187 submissions came from Tucson.

“We are so thrilled to celebrate the 2025 iteration of the Haiku Hike. Thousands of haiku have been written for the contest over the past six years, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the most recent submissions throughout Downtown Tucson this spring. Be sure to check them out next time you’re downtown!” said Tyler Meier, Executive Director with the Poetry Center.

More information about this event including the winning haiku, sign locations and a printable map can be found at downtowntucson.org/haikuhike.
