More Sponsors Needed to Keep Gift Card Program Momentum Going

DOWNTOWN TUCSON, AZ, April 20, 2020 – The Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) is looking for additional sponsors to keep its wildly successful DTP Gift Card Incentive Program going.

In three sold-out rounds, 3,000 gift cards to more than 60 participating downtown businesses have been sold, infusing $105,000 of much needed funds into downtown cash registers in a matter of days. Round 3 last Wednesday sold out in 15 minutes!

“Community support has been phenomenal,” said Kathleen Eriksen, President & CEO of Downtown Tucson Partnership. “It’s thrilling to see this community invest in itself like this, as local funders step up and thousands of Tucsonans reach into their own pocketbooks to support the businesses that they love.”

Under the program, people buy a gift card worth $35 for only $25. That $10 incentive is made possible through the support of a sponsor. DTP invested the initial $10,000 incentive required for the first round. Rio Nuevo sponsored Round 2 and HSL Properties sponsored Round 3.

“What a spectacular idea,” said Fletcher McCusker, Board Chair of Rio Nuevo. “The gift card program creates immediate cash for our struggling restaurants and will bring thousands of people back downtown when we are mobile again. It also shows the support of our community toward our downtown food scene. Let’s keep it going!”

HSL Properties was so thrilled with the community response from Round 3 - they’ve agreed to sponsor another round planned for this week: Round 4 will be released at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22.

How long will DTP keep offering rounds of gift cards? As long as sponsors can be found, Eriksen says. To become a sponsor, contact Kathleen Eriksen at kathleeneriksen@downtowntucson.org.

More than 60 businesses have chosen to participate in the program, including restaurants, museums, breweries, boutiques, hotels, grocers, spas, gyms and more.
