Summer in the City Discount Card
As the weather heats up, Summer in the City deals get cool
Five bucks can save you plenty more with Startup Tucson’s Summer in the City passport.
It sets you up with cool deals around our hot town.
You can snag discounts on pizzas, candles, entertainment and food.
As of earlier this week, 38 businesses had signed up and Startup isn’t done gathering merchants to participate, says Liz Pocock, the organization’s chief operating officer.
“We’re trying to get businesses signed within the next two weeks so customers can get the full benefit throughout the summer,” Pocock said. She says she hopes about 100 businesses will end up participating. If successful, she expects the passport program will become a regular summer fixture in Tucson.
Downtown Merchants Council began Summer in the City two years ago as a way to help merchants survive the summer slowdown. Startup Tucson took it over this year.
Among those aiming to entice customers through the program are Highwire Lounge; Tucson Improv Movement; Antigone Books, Gifts, and Cards; Fox Tucson Theatre; Tap and Bottle and Café 54. Most of the businesses participating are in the downtown, Fourth Avenue, Nob Hill and Sunshine Mile areas.
“I really like being a part of the Summer in the City,” says Monica Cota, owner of Fourth Avenue’s Rustic Candle Company, a participant in the program.
“It’s an easy, accessible, funky strip and I feel we need to cultivate it and keep it going.”
