One of the shining stars of modern folk, Amos Lee creates the rare kind of music that’s emotionally raw yet touched with a certain magical quality. His talent runs the gamut from the introspective to explosive — a singer-songwriter who brings elements of country, folk, R&B, soul and gospel into his emotional and observational lyrics and music.

This will be Lee’s third visit to the Fox stage, a prime showcase for his warm commanding voice and soul-baring songwriting. His first visit was to tape Live from the Artist’s Den for PBS after completing the recording for his album, Mission Bell, right here in Tucson in association with Calexico. His second concert was just as powerful, as the sold out audience connected with Lee’s palpable sense of playfulness and endlessly imaginative sound. Now, after waiting out COVID, Lee’s return performance is sure to be the most memorable yet as he and his band perform past favorites, plus new music from Lee’s album Dreamland.

Dreamland’s play list intimately documents Lee’s real-world struggles with alienation and anxiety, something we all can identify with in looking back on the last two years. With this concert tour, Lee hopes that his songs might inspire others to live more fully and free of fear. “Over the course of my life I’ve come to understand that music is my bridge to other people,” he says. “I have no idea what the waters are like below that bridge—it might be lava for all I know—but music allows me to float over the whole thing and connect. To me that’s the whole point of why we do this: to give people something to listen to and be enveloped by the love of another human being, and just be reminded that humanity is beautiful.”
