Presented by the Presidio Museum, this lecture features Author Janolyn Lovecchio discussing a forgotten part of Tucson’s tuberculosis epidemic – the Pima County Preventorium. From 1925-1945, Tucson’s community leaders worked together to save lives of children with active tuberculosis or at risk of developing tuberculosis. Located in the Tucson Mountains, the Pima County Preventorium was part of a national movement which worked to save children from developing tuberculosis by removing them from their families and placing then in institutions. Lovecchio’s articles have appeared in state and national history journals and have received awards from the Arizona Historical Society and Westerners International.
