In an age of social distancing and institution closures, virtual online tours provide access to numerous visitors.  Explore the Presidio’s efforts to develop methods to tell the stories of early settlers and soldatos digitally; while honoring the accuracy, ambiance and respect our ancestors deserve in creating a culture of cooperation that the members of the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson still treasure and support.

The presenter is Dr. Michael S. Engs, who is an avid historian and has done extensive research on African people in the new world and the southwest dating back 500 years.  He recently received grants of $30,000 from the Arizona Humanities Council, The Marshall Foundation, and the National Parks Service to further his work and that of the Tucson Presidio Trust and the Presidio Museum’s Living History Programs.  Currently, he is developing materials for books, videos, and tours on African peoples in Spanish Colonial America, 1519-1821 for these entities.

This month’s lecture will be held ONLY on ZOOM!  Pre-registration and payment of $5 is required to receive the Zoom link. Get pre-registration information at https://tucsonpresidio.com/calendar/salon-saloon-lecture-the-presidio-explores-black-history-through-a-digital-world/.
