Summer in Tucson does not mean staying inside. In fact, some of Downtown Tucson’s most exciting experiences happen after the sun goes down.
Introducing The Downtown Experience, a new summer collaboration bringing together some of Downtown Tucson’s favorite museums for special evening programming on select nights throughout the summer.
On the last Fridays of June, July, and August, participating museums across downtown will stay open later and host their own unique activations, giving the community the opportunity to create their own perfect downtown itinerary. Think after-hours museum exploration, hands-on activities, special exhibits, drinks, performances, and a reason to rediscover downtown in a whole new way.
Whether you want a full evening out or just a reason to try somewhere new, The Downtown Experience is designed to make summer nights feel a little more connected, creative, and fun.
Build Your Own Downtown Adventure
One of the best parts of The Downtown Experience is that no two nights have to look the same.
Start the evening by arriving downtown a little early to explore local shops and businesses before heading to a museum event. Afterward, grab dinner downtown, stop for dessert, or enjoy drinks at one of the many nearby bars and restaurants. Downtown Tucson becomes your choose-your-own-adventure.
This collaboration was created to encourage both locals and visitors to experience downtown in a more immersive way while supporting the businesses, restaurants, museums, and creative spaces that make the district so unique. The Downtown Experience is designed to be welcoming and family friendly, while still offering something enjoyable for all ages throughout the evening.
What to Expect
Children’s Museum Tucson
Each Downtown Experience event at the Children's Museum Tucson features its own unique theme and activities. Throughout the summer, families can look forward to experiences ranging from giant bubble parties and foam-filled fun to interactive water play and splash zones, as well as hands-on sensory activities featuring slime, oobleck, and other creative materials. No two evenings are the same, giving families a new reason to visit each month.
Presidio Museum
Step into Tucson's history with the Presidio Museum's Fire & Ice series. Guests can enjoy docent-led lantern tours, live garrison drills with musket firing demonstrations, blacksmithing demonstrations, and themed food and beverage offerings in partnership with Brandylion Spirits. The experience blends local history with interactive demonstrations for all ages.
Tucson Museum of Art
Experience art after hours during Momentos, TMA's summer evening series celebrating the connection between art and community. Guests can explore the Arizona Biennial 2026, participate in artist-led creative activities, enjoy live music from a local DJ, and connect with fellow art enthusiasts in a relaxed, social atmosphere. The evening also features a cash bar, complimentary snacks, local treats available for purchase, and opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations inspired by the artwork on display.
