Accept the Downtown Tucson Gift Card at Your Business

The Downtown Tucson Gift Card encourages customers to shop, dine and explore local businesses while keeping spending within the downtown economy. The program is free for eligible businesses within the Downtown Tucson Business Improvement District (BID), and participating businesses receive 100% of the gift card funds redeemed at their establishment.

About the Gift Card Program

Offered by Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) since November 2020, the Downtown Tucson Gift Card can be redeemed at dozens of participating downtown businesses.

  • Free for eligible businesses: DTP covers all costs associated with administering the program for businesses within the Business Improvement District
  • Keep 100% of gift card funds: Participating businesses receive the full amount redeemed at their establishment.
  • No special equipment required: The physical gift card works with participating Visa-accepting point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Online purchasing: Customers purchase gift cards through the DTP website, and DTP staff process and fulfill all orders.

How to Process a Downtown Tucson Gift Card Transaction

Make sure your staff knows how to process Downtown Tucson Gift Cards when customers present them at your business.

  1. Swipe the gift card through your point-of-sale (POS) system as a credit card. Do not insert or tap the card.
  2. Enter the last four digits if prompted. These can be found on the back of the gift card.
  3. Do not charge gratuities to the gift card. Customers must use another form of payment for tips.

Split Payments

If a customer's gift card balance is less than their total purchase amount, you can process a split payment:

  1. Ask the customer to verify their available balance at getmybalance.com or by calling 800-755-0085.
  2. Swipe the gift card and charge the exact available balance.
  3. Collect the remaining amount using another form of payment.

Point-of-Sale Systems & Transactions

The Downtown Tucson Gift Card works with participating POS systems that accept Visa. Here's what businesses should know:

  • Transactions: Gift card purchases appear as Visa transactions in your end-of-day credit card reconciliation.
  • Multiple businesses: If your property operates multiple businesses or concepts with separate POS systems, each can be enrolled individually.
  • New POS systems: If you replace or update your POS system, contact DTP. A new test transaction may be required to ensure gift cards continue to work.
  • Redemption activity: Contact DTP to request information about how much your business has redeemed through the program.
  • All transactions from the Downtown Tucson Gift Card will show up in your end-of-day credit card reconciliations as VISA transactions
