On our Downtown Tucson Walking Tour by Strolls and Stories Tours, Scott, your Tour Guide, will guide you as we stroll the charming sidewalks of Downtown Tucson! We start where Tucson was founded as a Spanish Colonial Presidio way back in 1775. Then we stroll past a historic Sonoran Row House and learn how these structures were built to stay cool in our harsh desert climate!
Next, we visit the Historic Pima County Courthouse, and see the courtroom where the Dillinger Gang was arraigned in 1934 - Plus, we hear the tale of their capture here in Tucson – It’s a Fascinating Tale! Scott, your Tour Guide, happens to be from Indiana, the home state of John Dillinger, and has some fascinating side stories to share about the Dillinger Gang!
From there, we see the location of our first Catholic Cathedral to learn of many historic stories that take place here, including the tale of a western gunfighter who partied the night away! This is a fun story!
Next, we stroll past the historic Fox Theatre, a southwest art deco designed building, and see Tucson’s first skyscraper! Then we make our way over to the historic Hotel Congress and Rialto Theatre to learn the historic stories of these structures over the years. Up next is the historic Southern Pacific Railroad and we see where Wyatt Earp took care of an outlaw, and we see a historic steam locomotive!
Finally, we make our way to Jacome Plaza to learn of the downtown department store scene and a luxury hotel. We learn the incredible stories of these early settlers of Tucson from the 1800s, who turn their businesses into a huge success that actually gains national acclaim in the mid century era!
