The Presidio Museum depends on its volunteer docents to bring history alive for visitors. We are always looking for new docents, and to that end, the museum is holding its Docent and Interpreter Class on Sept. 11, 18, 25, and Oct. 2. The class will cover a variety of topics for those interested in volunteering for tours and events at the Presidio Museum. This extensive course covers a variety of topics, including:
• Early people of the Tucson basin
• History, geography and people of the Spanish Presidio
• Basic Spanish military history and uniforms
• The Mexican Republic
• Tour training and how to know your audience
• Geography of the Presidio neighborhood, the Santa Cruz River and Sentineal Peak (A Mountain)
Docents are expected to commit to one weekday shift a week or one weekend shift each month The cost for new volunteers is $75 and includes a one-year membership to the Presidio Museum. Pre-registration required.
